Encouraging Words
For Jen Starn Allingham
by dan ankers
Encouraging words
Won’t take you as far
As a bike or a plane
Or a train or a car
And they can sometimes seem cruel, too
Like a mirror image that’s being used
Just to abuse you
A perfect portrait
Of what could be
On the other side of your reality
Where everyone smiles
And everyone seems happy
Encouraging words are like
Drawn pictures of birds
That are
Pleasing to the mind’s eye
And elevate the spirit
But they’ll never help you learn to fly
No, they’ll never even get you near it
Not one iota closer, to stepping off
That living roller coaster
Despite that fact
Take my encouragement
That everything’s going to be just fine
In the end
Because when you take action
You control your life
To a level which is refined
And as divine
As anything can be
You’ll see
And when you look at pictures of birds
And when you hear these encouraging words
Know that flying is not in order
Nor is speeding like a car
Or any other vehicle
That might physically take you far
The means of travel you will seek
Will be your form of destiny
And where forging a great destiny is concerned
There can be no better means
Than travelling within yourself
And flying with your own wings
Which lift atop the wind
The thoughts within your head
You will rise up like the Eagle
Above
Such Mundane
Things
