Balanced

Balanced
by dan ankers

Meet the new balanced me
He still says things inappropriately, and yet he’ll hug you after the deed is done
His motives didn’t change, but he has learned to leave you with a smile
He doesn’t win awards because nobody likes his style, and yet it gets shit done
And in his heart he feels as if he’s won, trophies and trinkets and baubles be cursed, those are for bearded men who have worked for the works
but give me results, some lives getting better
an addict in remission
a child being fed.
Real siit
No substitute.
I salute

A Speck

A Speck
by dan ankers

I am a speck that matters a lot to a few
as with most of us, who are loved by a bevy of groups
We matter so much
We do
We Specks on the lenses of time to be wiped
we mattered while we were there the the lovely ones and the growns and the tykes
Never could we make it make sense in mathematical terms, we germs
we earn our spot on earth by being birthed.and then learned proper in them schools, following
them there rules, which are largely a pile of nonsenses as we shall see
and not to mention pecking order, or disorder as it were. They set us up there to thrive and to fail
only to be better off when we avail our own tree
Family is...whoever will give unto the root, which is the source of all life
really. we find it
divine it
this root
so simple, and yet it yields us very few answers

Out-Caste

Out-Caste
by dan ankers

Categorically, I guess I will make my own
category
so I can be alone
I want to be an outcast
in a Caste
of my own
so I can be
alone
but
never lonely
owned
but never
in debt
paid
but
never rich really
I live a rich feeling
I express this reality
this is me
the castle

I'm all ears

I’m all ears
by dan ankers

Tips for when I listen
shut up
I know the cosmos are vast
but she’s actually kinda hot
and
Not in a sort-of good-enough kind of way
No, this chick is uber-cool
and she actually has something to say
so shut the fuck up and listen
That’s your mission

We all know that the universe is vast
and that our economy is in dire need of help
and that our current stance of starting false wars
over oil in foreign places, while babies and children die
just can’t last
but man
Just listen
This is your mission
She’s hot
and you like her a lot
shut up

People Who Care

People Who Care
by dan ankers

I felt so strained as I walked along the street today
The sidewalk though paved
felt as if it was a world away
In the cold bleakness
There were women/men though all the same
If I am special
I am still an urchin
unworthy
Though hooded, cloaked
arched to one side
I stride
that tide
drug dealers
old ties
old friends
some lose
who wins?
I look to me for an answer
I found none.
I ate my breakfast
and downed a couple sleeping pills
and I was
done

Money

Money
by dan ankers

Some say that money is the root of all evil
I say that the love of anything
sightless and trivial
which causes you to harm your fellow
woman or man is
evil

Even if that love is
in the form of the perception of the god of your
choice

Honestly Driven

Honestly Driven
by dan ankers

I would much rather be
successful at me
than an ounce of anything else
I would much rather die
a success at I
than renounce my essence
of self

The death of poetry

The death of poetry
by dan ankers

I forgive you for all the shit you put me through
and in the end I would highly recommend you to someone new
that was all in the past
though it felt like my world was shards of broken glass
at that time

They say distance makes the heart grow fonder
but your lack of presence in my life has made you blonder
and your brother
and your friends
and your mother…
I hope all of them are doing fine

We were never meant to be
When we first kissed at the beach
and
It would have been a wonderful story
a classic case of vacation glory
but that story didn’t end
it carried on

And when you place two folks in a box
and when you fasten it with locks
sometimes the thing you get just makes you die
and you’re never quite the same
as when you learned that pretty name
and it’s awful
who’s to blame for wasted time

Armageddon is Eventual, because I say so

Armageddon is Eventual, because I say so
by dan ankers

Who cares if there is a god
Who cares if there is an afterlife
Who cares?

Babies are dying every day for no reason
Do you think that is right?
Do you believe that your god cares about the details?
What if all the rigamarole is just a test
and the portent of Armageddon
is one of the rest?

Maybe your perceptions of what is right and wrong
came from the mouths of men?
And the obvious nature of the truth
needs to be seen through the eyes of a universal view.
Pull back
Yes
Pull Back and Look

57th childhood

57th childhood
by dan ankers

This is me.
Taking things seriously, for once, because I want to do things MY WAY. I Started feeling silly out of remorse.
My way as we exit the highway
briefly shows you how wonderful you can be
just trust me
it’s okay
Name’s Rusty
and so we were powering along
acquiring many new friends
but that’s not the end of this tale

No one here knows anything at all
We’re just brains, Stewing in the air
ALERT
and
searching for some clarity
oh what an elemental rarity!
Between us lies distant
Yet reminiscent patterns of almost  computer like
despairity
we act talk and think
take a drink
from the fountain of
profanity
and now it seems you want a fantasy?
Well, I can see that you and me are gonna have a lot in common
I  come from sWanKy London
via NeW JeRseY
to see and be with you
but let’s GET REAL
Cause it’s the real Deal
Out HERE
Where you can moooove
and the fog parts for you even once in awhile
Just stay with us
and you will live in
STYLE

Disappearance

Disappearance
by dan ankers

The sweltering heat left behind in my rearview mirror
apparitions of yesterday
rising up from the streets

Gremlins untold If I’d cared to remember them
one after the other
like a funeral procession

And my mind couldn’t be asked to perform such a task as that
for whatever mind was
it was limited solely to driving

Away from all

away from her
away from you
away from me, even
and
Most importantly of all
I was running from time

For time had amassed a credit to me which I could now receive
and be paid in full

Seascape

Seascape
by dan ankers

What is a poem but scattered sea foam
collecting at the foot of the waves and the tide
the extras you find when great things have passed by
redolent of of everything high
but lowest of things
you can find
Where along the beach and among the crashing of the waves
and the breeze through the sand
Where people like I can collect it, direct it
till it subsides
and it’s bubbles are gone
and no more
That is what poems are
and that is what
dreamers are for
to see where the people see nothing
and are lost among the sea
and the roaring tide’s rushing

Why

Why
by dan ankers

Why did I get born
Why did the sun rise today
does any of it mean anything at all
So that simple cause and effect meanings
do not convey
the only way?
I mean it’s all cause and effect in the end, but I hope you know what I mean
Is there more than a mere cause and effect
hot pocket universe dream?
Did we all get borned in a microwave
Did the universe just leave it on too long
and is it all one day just going to collapse
to be reborn again
repeating this song.
Evermore, Evermore quoth the Raven
and with her talons she did improvise a dance
But is that dance merely all that there ever was?
or is this world a much greater
thing, that it needs to be cherished?
This universe immortalized
These days Counted
