Pretty Reckless

Pretty Reckless
by dan ankers

Stale city air and compromise
leave a wake behind your smile
You shoulder shrugs merely mystify
as the populace can testify
Pretty reckless
Trailing off in another direction
my intention

Our conversation lasts
for about an hour
All the while
you’re pretty dour

Marginalizing
the stale and the sour
Rectifying its existence
amid the grandeur
and the splendor
of
Power

That
which, being largely unknown
Is the very definition
Of
the point of the hour
Over which we now
scour

Or I should say
“back then”
