Disappearance
by dan ankers
The sweltering heat left behind in my rearview mirror
apparitions of yesterday
rising up from the streets
Gremlins untold If I’d cared to remember them
one after the other
like a funeral procession
And my mind couldn’t be asked to perform such a task as that
for whatever mind was
it was limited solely to driving
Away from all
away from her
away from you
away from me, even
and
Most importantly of all
I was running from time
For time had amassed a credit to me which I could now receive
and be paid in full
