Enmity
by Dan Ankers
Springing from the side of a rock
From whence it came, I do know not
I only see it hanging there
a sprig with dignity, a clipping of infinity
a child set apart from the surrounding Enmity
How soft its outspoken flower
Though shriveled at times, its leaves show great power
I only wish that I had such gentle pride
to be left standing alone
with nowhere to hide
Gracing the rock of this earth, with my immortal presence
Presented like a sacrifice to the elements
So strong and yet so totally refined
So as not to utter so much as a word
of Ill-gotten Pride
